Public Health Institute (PHI) recently published an impact article featuring ACCA’s regional expansion throughout California from it’s launch in Alameda County in 2013 and the subsequent growth into Contra Costa, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Mateo, and Santa Clara County over the following 10 years. The article also highlighted the fact that while first launched to serve predominately African American adults, ACCA intentionally expanded the Advanced Illness Care Program (AICP) to serve the Latinx community by developing bilingual trainings and resources (in English and Spanish).
In 2023, AC CARE Alliance served 162 participants in LA, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, and a total of 387 people (including caregivers) across all six counties. AC CARE Alliance also conducted 1,500 participant visits, and continued to expand opportunities for learning and connection by training faith leaders, pastors, their congregants, and the broader community in the topic areas of aging, palliative care, hospice care and advance care planning.
At one training in San Jose, CA, some of the Spanish-speaking participants were tearful and expressed their sincere gratitude for receiving critical information in their primary language for the first time.
Public Health Institute is ACCA’s Fiscal Sponsor. PHI is home to 100+ programs working around the globe across some of the most pressing issues in public health. Their mission is to build a healthier world together.
